Tips for Packing and Shipping Art Safely

As an artist, you may find yourself needing to ship your artwork to clients, galleries, or shows. While shipping artwork may seem daunting, it doesn't have to be!

With a little bit of planning and the right materials, you can package and ship your artwork with confidence.

1. Choose the right box.

The first step in packing and shipping your artwork is to choose the right box. You'll want a box that is sturdy enough to protect your artwork from being damaged in transit. If you're unsure of what size box to use, err on the side of caution and choose a larger one. You can always fill any empty space with packing material like bubble wrap or styrofoam peanuts.

2. Pack your artwork securely.

Once you have your box, it's time to start packing your artwork! Begin by wrapping each piece of artwork in acid-free tissue, plastic wrap, or bubble wrap. Then, place the wrapped artwork in the box on top of more packing material. Make sure that each piece of artwork is snug and secure so that it doesn't move around inside the box during shipping.

3. Address and label the box.

Once your box is full, seal it shut and address it to its final destination. Be sure to include both a return address and a phone number so that the recipient can reach you if there are any problems with delivery. Finally, apply shipping labels and stamps as required by your chosen shipping method.

4. Ship with care.

The last step in safely shipping your artwork is to choose a shipping method that will get it where it needs to go without damage! For most pieces of art, USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground will do just fine. Just be sure to insure your package for its full value in case something does happen during transit.

By following these simple tips, you can rest assured that your artwork will arrive at its destination safely and soundly.
